Structure & Design

Classes Curriculum Calendar Timetable
  • Our classes are entirely ability-based and not age-based subject by subject, with a fluid mechanism of acceleration for high-ability students, and of re-inforcement for those requiring additional help
  • Primary Lower, Primary Upper (Y4, Y5, Y6)
  • Pre-GCSE 1, Pre-GCSE 2, Pre-GCSE 3 (Y7, Y8, Y9)
  • GCSE Lower, GCSE Upper(Y10, Y11)
  • The aim of the curriculum, as far as is possible, is to foster learning by enquiry, discovery, problem-solving and creativity rather than through the memorising of concepts and theories
  • We balance the above with our essential need for learning remotely (with tournament travel) and therefore not having access to resources such as science labs; for example we choose iGCSE examinations rather than GCSE examinations in Science as they are assesed 100% through written examination without a practical element.
  • Topics are introduced in an applied way with real-world examples and applications whenever possible, with clear progression markers in each case
  • The curriculum aims to enable children to understand relationships between topics and subjects and their relevant contexts within the wider world
  • As a school that caters to the elite-level pursuit of a specific "passion" (tennis), we do not offer Art or Music as examined subjects, however these disciplines are woven into the curriculum within the contexts of other subjects
  • The main curriculum is delivered over 35 weeks in the year, and the calendar is designed to fit around times of greatest tournament activity
  • Tennis training is delivered for 48 weeks in the year. Even during school holiday periods students attend training (based around matches and required rest days) whenever they are not attending tournaments
  • greatest tournament activity
  • There are four rest weeks in the year, when students are expected to take complete rest, go on holiday etc.
  • The school day starts at 8am and ends at 5pm or 5:30pm depending on day
  • There are six sessions of 1 hour 10 minutes each through the day, with breaks and lunch
  • Usually this is divided into three academic classes and three tennis sessions per day
  • There is a physical fitness session on four of the days and a mental fitness session on one day
  • Primary Lower (Y4-Y5)
